3 Tips For Upgrading Your Bedroom This Summer

Summer is here and with summer comes lighter fabrics, brighter colours and more natural light thanks to the long days. If your bedroom is still in winter mode, with dark colours and thick blankets, then you might not be making the most of the change in seasons and, even more importantly, your sleep could be being disrupted.

Just like you change your wardrobe once summer comes around, your bedroom needs a little refresh, too. Let’s take a look at some easy ways to upgrade your bedroom this summer.

Make Your Bed Lighter

During the cold winter months, there is nothing better than climbing into a warm, snug bed at the end of the day. But, what so many people don’t realise is that, during the summer months, we don’t need the same level of warmth whilst we sleep as we do during the winter.

To get your bed ready for the summer months, change your duvet to a lighter tog (around 4.5 is ideal for summer), switch up your duvet cover sets to a lighter fabric, such as cotton, and remove any heavy blankets or sleeping aids, including weighted blankets, as these can make the bed much warmer. No matter your bedroom colour scheme, you can’t beat crisp white bedding during the summer months!

Take Advantage Of The Natural Light

If you find that your bedroom doesn’t get much natural light, even during the summer months, then find ways in which you can encourage natural light to filter into your bedroom. Curtains are perfect for keeping warmth in during the winter months, but during the summer months they can make bedrooms feel dark and can insulate warmth, which is not ideal for those super warm days!

If you’re happy to let natural light in early in the morning, then switch heavy curtains for thinner cotton curtains, as these will help to keep your bedroom light and airy. If you need the benefits of blackout curtains in order to get a good night’s sleep, but want to make your bedroom more seasonally decorated, look for blackout curtains in a light material instead.

Add Splashes Of Summer Colour

You don’t need to redecorate your bedroom every time the season changes, but what you can do is choose a neutral colour scheme that you can add to with accessories when the seasons do change. In the summer, look to add splashes of bright colours around your bedroom to bring the fun of summer in!

Things such as real or even artificial plants and flowers add colour and texture to your bedroom, whilst bright scatter pillows against white bedding creates the ultimate focal point. Instead of candles, which can be dangerous if left unattended whilst windows are open to let in the summer breeze, invest in some summer-scented diffusers.
