Norwegian design featured prominently at a private gathering held in the Norwegian Ambassador’s Residence in London, part of the Inside Norway export initiative aimed at promoting the country’s furniture and interior brands abroad.

Showcase of Nordic hospitality concepts

The invitation-only event brought architects, interior designers, and members of the wider design community together to explore how Norwegian design is shaping the future of interiors. A select group of professionals gathered in the historic residence, where the ambassadors’ setting combined discussion, product showcases, and informal presentations.

Organisers highlighted that the program combines embassy partnerships with strategic promotion to create opportunities in new markets. They explained that collaboration between the diplomatic mission and industry participants is intended to generate lasting commercial links.

“Through international showcases, embassy partnerships and strategic promotion, we create opportunities in new markets and connect brands with new audiences. Because collaboration turns strong Norwegian brands into a global force,” said Ragnhild Grytten, Marketing Manager at the Norwegian Design Industry.

Seminar on sleep-centric interiors

The afternoon featured a seminar on creating the perfect sleep environment in a hospitality setting, moderated by editor Hamish Kilburn. The panel brought together a multidisciplinary group of experts: Marie Soliman Berglund of Bergman House Design, sleep expert Sanjay Verma, interior designer Christine Skaar, Jade Baker of Foundry, and Therese Haltuff of Norsk Dun. Drawing on their respective experience, the speakers shared successes and challenges while considering how the hospitality sector can continue to evolve its approach to sleep.

The discussion placed the guest experience at the centre of the design process, recognising that a successful sleep environment extends beyond the bed itself. As hotels increasingly seek to create memorable, experience-led stays, sleep offers a compelling opportunity to combine thoughtful design with practical performance.

The seminar provided a forum for considering how specialist knowledge, product innovation, and interior design can work together to meet the expectations of today’s guests.

Exhibition highlights diverse manufacturers

A modest exhibition spread across the residence displayed products from a range of Norwegian makers, complemented by informal presentation sessions. Attendees moved among curated displays, observing how each item integrates function with visual appeal.

Companies such as Fora Form, Helland, Jensen Beds, LK Hjelle, Lundhs Realstone, Northern, Norsk Dun, Novooi, and Spectrum Blue participated. Their work reflected a design culture shaped by the country’s environment, natural resources, and generations of craftsmanship, while adopting technology, innovation, and international collaboration.

Manufacturers blend traditional craftsmanship with modern technology, aiming for products that perform well while meeting strict environmental standards. They highlighted the use of renewable woods, low-impact finishes, and energy-saving manufacturing processes.

For the UK hospitality sector, the gathering provided an opportunity to discover new products, exchange knowledge, and build relationships with Norwegian companies whose work spans both established design traditions and emerging ideas.
